Geneva Airport (Aèroport International de Geneve) is one of the busiest international airports in Europe, being that it is at the centre of one of the most important diplomatic nations in the world, SwitzerlandGeneva is a truly cosmopolitan city with both French and English spoken by just about everyone.  Aside from the obvious attractions of Geneva itself - home to the Jet d'Eau, the Palais des Nations, the Cathedrale St-Pierre, and the International Museum of the Reformation, amongst other sights - it is also an ideal base for any holidaymaker hoping to explore the nearby Alps.  Hiring a car for this purpose is absolutely crucial - it is near impossible to get into and around the surrounding mountainous regions without your own private transportation.

There are a number of car-hire companies based within the international airport in Geneva, precisely because the surrounding area is one best explored by car.  Keep an eye out on the bottom level of Terminal One for EuropCar, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Sixt and Alamo; or if you have hired from what is known as the 'French sector' (Geneva Airport is located right on the Switzerland-France border) from the second level of the International terminal.  You will have to show your car-rental documentation to the officials in order to cross the border from inside the terminal.  Upon exiting the terminal with your car look out for the signs for motorway 1 (E25/E26) as it will lead you into Geneva either via the Route de Ferney (if you journey to the north-east) or Route de Vernier and Rue de Lyon (if you journey to the south-east).
